Jess Willis is pulled into a 1980s novel as the notorious ex-wife of a disabled magnate fated to die young. Trapped by a villain system that forces her to stir drama and be cruel before she can go home, she at first refuses, then chooses to embrace the villain role for fun. Chaos follows, but a shocking twist reveals the whole family can hear her thoughts. Her inner voice warps relationships; slights become confessions, conflicts become closeness. The expected tragedy shifts: the disabled husband who should have died recovers and grows utterly devoted. Jess must decide whether to keep playing the role that freed her or protect the fragile bonds she accidentally rebuilt.

Is the system testing her for redemption or genuine malice? I suspect a secret loophole saves her.

Smart subversion of villain tropes and system mechanics kept pacing tight. 1980s setting felt authentic and charming.

I cried and laughed watching Jess choose chaos and warmth. Thought-reading family scenes hit so hard.
