Harper, a student entering an art competition, is confronted by a group of peers who demand she drop out. They attempt to steal her sketchbook, asserting the top prize is theirs. The tension is broken by the arrival of Ryder, an intimidating figure the group calls 'the devil.' After the others flee, Ryder speaks with another person, showing a bite wound from a fight with a rival pack. Hidden nearby, Harper overhears Ryder's threat to find and make the 'stray human' responsible pay. Realizing she is that person and he despises her, Harper panics, but Ryder spots her and commands her to stop as she tries to escape.
