A man confronts Miss Cross, demanding she name her price for something and threatening her lack of allies in the city. She counters, stating she possesses leverage instead. The man then reveals his true motive: he never wanted a person named Julia, but the inheritance she represents, and Miss Cross is merely in his way. In retaliation, Miss Cross reveals she has already frozen the crucial Hartley account, claiming it for herself. The man vows to enjoy watching her lose everything, to which she defiantly replies that they will see who is really watching whom.
