A person hurrying to see an old man is questioned while the speaker presses for reward and lists three points: the addressee missed her wedding day, must keep a powerful matter from 'madam' (so 'Uncle' should feign ignorance), and she hates the smell of smoke. With surveillance sabotaged and instructed silence, the recovery stalls; Little Amber has really grown up.
