Richard, a skilled black-market veterinarian, is offered an exorbitant sum by a wealthy woman to become her private vet. Despite his initial reluctance, the promise of £10,000 a day convinces him to sign a magical contract that binds him to the job. Immediately after signing, he is shown the jawbone of his predecessor, who was killed for breaking the rules, and is given a journal of survival guidelines. As his first midnight shift begins, he discovers the manor's creatures are dangerously transformed, realizing too late the lethal stakes of his new employment.
