Ann learns from a friend that Tim may have a mistress, but Tim denies it and claims it's over. Despite suspicions, Ann decides not to pursue a divorce for the sake of their daughter, Joy, who would face a single-parent family. Tim rushes out to attend to an accident involving an important client, leaving Ann weak and at home. Joy, left alone with Ann, accidentally overhears a troubling phone call about a woman threatening suicide, which leads to tension when Tim scolds her for answering his phone. Ann is left questioning who this woman might be.
