At a family gathering Katie unknowingly wears a bangle that belonged to Quinn's late mother, and Quinn explodes. Jared, Quinn's brother, rebukes Quinn for bullying Katie and tries to calm the scene, but Quinn threatens Katie: "Next time, she will be dead." Worried about reputation, the family agrees to give the precious bangle to the soul arbiter at tomorrow's welcome party and replace it later to protect their status. As they plan the gift, someone warns Quinn, "the more you care about it, the more I want to destroy it," leaving Quinn's safety and the family's choice unresolved.
