A woman, Elowen, returns to her family home after her husband Garrett abandoned her, desperately pleading with her mother for shelter. Her mother coldly dismisses her, and her sister cruelly mocks her for being a 'discarded woman' with no shame. Rejected and now on the streets where others scorn her, she is cornered by a man in an alley who recognizes her as a disgraced countess and implies he intends to assault her. Refusing to die in disgrace, she fights back, but her assailant orders his men to seize her and demands she be thrown to the wolves.
