Enrique returns to his grandmother demanding to see the luxury watch she bought; she says she had it tested, defends the young woman who sold it, and scolds Enrique for staying single. Enrique insists he will only marry the girl who saved him. Later, at a cold-storage hiring, Vivian—who has a leg problem and a baby to support—pleads to be allowed to work despite warnings the cold could hurt her. The manager lets her try; coworkers push her to endure for the pay and formula money. As she begins, she suddenly asks, "Why is my face so hot?" leaving her health and the job in doubt.
