At a village gathering where General Quill and other men claim the women being handed out, Chief Gerald oversees a rough selection. Men loudly inspect bodies and haggle; Mr. Campbell is denied priority because Finn had saved the village during the famine, so Finn is allowed first choice. Another man offers meat to go ahead and Finn agrees. Contestants argue that only scrawny women remain who "won't give offspring," and a frail volunteer is dismissed. Finn then makes his choice, leaving the village with the leftover women and unresolved pressure over their future.
