Vaughn returns home to find Silas, who has served three years in prison, now claiming his old room and even the family car. As Silas moves into the study-adjacent room, Vaughn is forced to take the guest room and loses access to his grandfather's car, which Silas argues is necessary for maintaining the family’s reputation. Vaughn pleads for a promised role in the family's casino business but is instead told to start as a waiter. Feeling deeply betrayed and pushed out, Vaughn decides to leave, despite pleas from someone at the scene who acknowledges the unfairness of his situation.
