What a Pity, Too Late

Chester Joseph and Winifred Sloan were once deeply in love. A single phone call convinced Chester Winifred had a secret lover and had married him only for his money. His ex, Yvette, returns with a daughter and a fabricated leukemia story; Chester accepts her lies without question. When a car crash leaves Winifred gravely injured, Chester abandons her, and she dies. Yvette pushes her schemes further, endangering Madam Joseph, who alone knows the truth, and deepening Chester's misunderstandings while maneuvering toward an engagement with him.
