A man insults Alice, a 'half-blood,' and threatens her life if she refuses to form a bond with him. Defiant, Alice declares she'd rather die than make a pact with him. After the man leaves, she thanks a mysterious stranger who intervened. The stranger, needing to confirm her identity, causes her pain and then determines 'It's her for sure.' He shocks Alice by proposing, 'Then bond with me,' leaving her stunned and facing an unexpected, urgent choice.
