After a staged scene to trick Wynne, a man caused Ms. Smith to collapse and John intervened by removing one of the needles and giving her penicillin. Director Lewis inspects and says Ms. Smith is poisoned, not in heart failure, and that the penicillin will kill her within thirty minutes. He tells Ms. Sutton only the needle owner can treat her and orders her to bring the man back. They identify Leo as the bumpkin who knows medicine and rush to fetch him while Ms. Smith's life and John's future hang in the balance.
