At a society dinner Mr. Lyons is fawned over while guests urge Mrs. Baker to greet him. Mrs. Baker and Mr. Lyons trade compliments about perfume and skill, but someone warns that if Cael finds out about 'us' they'll lose their shares and be ruined. Mr. Lyons probes Mrs. Baker's bookkeeping and offers that his wife can handle technical issues; Mrs. Baker accepts, raising the risk of exposure. Later at home a small scratch is downplayed as a mosquito bite — and the spouse says, "There aren't any mosquitoes this time of year."
