An accusation of theft erupts when Nathan is confronted about Lucas’s missing watch. He denies taking it; a family member pleads for him, but his father forces him to kneel, banishes him from the main house and orders him into a storeroom as punishment. Afterward the same young man asks his mother to act as guarantor for a scholarship to study abroad. She refuses, insisting the Millers don't need scholarships and mocking his education, while the family prepares Lucas for overseas study and shopping. Rejected and shut out, he is left alone with an uncertain future.
