Chloe screams over her parents' deaths, calling for her father and begging her mother to live. She explains she was sent to the mountains to train and has hidden her strength so the killers will lower their guard — "blood for blood." At a family meeting Grandma declares Chloe incapable, gives her the family's wealth, and tells her to lean on the Herrings. Relatives call her a hick, say she's unworthy of Terry, and even suggest four other men for marriage. Chloe is forced into dependency while still vowing revenge, hiding her power as she waits for the killers.
