After a frightening moment leaves a family member shaken, they head home and save eggs to sell at the market tomorrow. Luther goes to the lake behind the house to fish for his mother despite warnings it's been empty. He tries a chant: "Hocus pocus, let the fishes jump to shore!" Later at a shop he pays for brown sugar; Mr. Jackman calls him a good kid, but another patron sneers, "All for show... Once you're broke, don't come begging." Luther leaves stung, with the family's income still uncertain.
