At a family dinner, a man asks Mrs. Sterling what she wants. She coolly orders the staff to remove all her belongings from the house, dismissing concerns that she should speak to her husband first. Later, en route to a Foundation Gala where she has always been on his arm, she feels increasingly out of place. The tension escalates when another woman arrives at the gala, revealing she has just returned from a trip with Mr. Sterling and brought gifts at his mother's request. Mrs. Sterling is left confronting the clear intrusion into her marriage.
