In the Eaton house a messenger announces Commissioner Neal will attend the evening banquet, and Ayla rushes to tell her mother. Lea, labeled a beggar in the subtitles, insists she belongs at the event and forces her way forward. Family members refuse entry, deride her and present a 'gift', a muzzle, as the price of admission. They command the guards, 'Put the muzzle on her!' Guards move to restrain her; Lea shouts, 'Stop! What are you doing?!' The banquet teeters on an explosive public scene with Neal's arrival still pending.
