At a royal audience the Emperor is presented with an elixir made from the flesh and blood of the King of North and his sons, said to grant eternal life. He admits he eradicated the armies of Langford, Goreon, Surnia and the Sables to obtain the Northern recipe. The Emperor spared Sable women by exile, but Ivan warns Willow Sable, the Sables' eldest daughter and master strategist, could retaliate. Court vows no half measures, leaving the exiles' fate unresolved.
