After finding evidence someone was secretly backing William—explaining how he stayed in charge of the Powells—they search a fingerprint safe and the company for a missing gold watch. They find nothing and suspect William moved it offsite. With hopes fading, Mr. Reid says only a delivery could return it. In daylight someone appears at the door and hands over a watch. "Mr. Reid, isn't this the gold watch we've been looking for?" is asked. He holds the recovered watch, but the deliverer’s identity and motive remain unknown.
