Questions start when someone asks, "What happened to the baby?" and another says, "I already paid her to get rid of it." Madison admits, telling Heather she's been sentenced to life in prison and: "Let this be my atonement for the child I'm carrying." Later a woman spots a child who resembles Madison. The welfare home says Efa was taken by a man claiming to be her father. Heather tries to trace Madison but learns the Peabodys and Claders ordered all records erased about a week ago. She hires an investigator to find her sister; the search hits a cover-up.
