After Wathil's invasion and Ocrax's failed defense, Lady Rosia Vear returns as the country’s protector. The crown decrees four men—Felix Carrillo, Oscar Pearce, Declan Spencer and Levy Hoddle—be granted to her as consorts. The new consorts are ordered to disrobe for measurements meant to ensure Lady Vear's future satisfaction. One man refuses, rejects the role, and leaves. During the subsequent celebration attendants call for Rosia; she goes unresponsive and then wakes confused, asking, "Wasn't I clubbing? Where am I?" Her sudden disorientation leaves her place at Vear Manor unresolved.
