At a family meal, Theo—just back from the countryside—is mocked by Dad, Mom and Eva for rough manners; he reveals he spent seventeen years alone, surviving on a single bun. He insists his priority is passing Veridia's exam to get into Apex University. Later he approaches a woman—"Ma'am"—and asks her to grant a wish: help secure Veridia residency. She warns the residency needs seven working days of paperwork and suggests another wish. Theo instead asks, "Can I go to his school?" Her hesitation and the residency delay leave his plan unresolved.
