A noblewoman called Spare, who is likely a princess, is isolating herself after a conflict with Prince Leon. Leon's servant reports she refuses visitors, prompting Leon to send an expensive ruby ring as an apology. Meanwhile, another woman suggests Spare is feigning illness for Leon's attention. Alone, Spare reflects bitterly that she was merely a stand-in for the woman Leon truly desires, Daisy. When Leon's gift arrives, she angrily dismisses it, instructing her servant to keep it or throw it away, declaring she wants nothing more from him ever again.
