Physician Shaw is accused of touching the Empress Dowager’s perfumed pouch and seized. He says the silver needles he used carried a parasite whose main host now lives in him; in 49 days it will draw the court’s illnesses into him, and harming him before then will cause a backlash. An onlooker cries, 'Forty-nine days—it's enough to avenge my father.' The court spares Shaw and keeps him. The Empress orders a succession search: the emperor, born with Extreme Heat, needs a woman of Extreme Cold, and men are sent. The episode ends on the 49-day deadline and an heir hunt.
