A maid, covered in blood, begs the Marquis George to save her from the servant Felix, who accuses her of stealing. She reveals that Felix tried to assault her and falsely accused her. Lady Rose intervenes, declares Felix will be executed for harming a maid, and asserts her authority over him despite his protests that he serves Lady Elsa. After dismissing everyone, Rose guides George away, privately reflecting that this once-despised man is now the powerful weapon she needs.
