At a hotel after their marriage, a beggar refuses to move into his wife's family home or accept being bossed; they agree he'll shower and change before meeting her parents. Relatives sneer that the beggar—Mr. Langley—is unworthy, but Ms. Stone insists he is the man she chose and orders them to treat him as they treat her. He vows to protect and provide for her. Staff are told to buy him clothes. As he goes to shower, Ms. Stone surprises him with, "I want you to help me shower," leaving him with an intimate test and the parents' reaction unresolved.
