During a tense conversation Mr. Lind is too shy to approach Ms. Carter, who he and others view as out of their league. Nia defends him, but friends (including Finn) tease and urge him to try, joking that status doesn't matter and even suggesting Rosa could be his new wife. The teasing escalates into blunt advice while Nia worries that growing up without a mother made her rebellious and fears resenting her family. Mr. Lind says she'll 'understand when you're my age,' prompting Nia to decide: 'If you're not going, then I will.' The choice is left unresolved.
