Clare is tracked down after running off from Waylon and confronted with a demand to come back. The person who found her says Emma and her family need Clare now and even mentions a buried time capsule to jolt her memory. At the hospital Emma reveals her grandmother's liver is failing and that only Clare and the grandmother are a perfect match. Clare refuses—"I'm not some donor. I won't do it!"—but staff are ordered to prepare for surgery immediately, leaving her refusal unresolved as the operation looms.
