A straight-A student goes on a nationwide 24-hour live variety broadcast so the public can witness any attempt by Marian to frame her. The live feed is derailed when Mr. Sutton (Jim) arrives at the house and is found in Hilary's room. Hilary slaps him and accuses him: "You changed my application," saying he downgraded her university placement to a junior college and earlier sold her father's confidential files, which led to their bankruptcy. The household ejects Jim; he storms off vowing revenge, leaving the threat unresolved while the nation watches.
