At a crowded court, rival nobles confront the Emperor of Yolham after someone reveals all other contenders were poisoned overnight, leaving only 'that pathetic man.' The challengers demand the Emperor admit defeat and hand Christine over as a handmaiden to be taken to Bellaros — a move they say would make their faction empress.
