On her wedding day Mandy is forced out by relatives and shamed by neighbors for marrying late and for having a child born out of wedlock. Her son Charlie pleads with her to leave as the family cuts ties. Mandy is taken to the poor Goodwin household where the son introduces her to his father, Seth, who is in a vegetative state after a car crash. He offers $10 million to secure her stay, but Mandy doubts the promise. Left alone with Seth and uncertain about the money, her immediate future hangs unresolved.
