Men holding a captive woman argue in a room after one warns she may know the Lord. They recall the Lord's cruelty—how a servant who dirtied a portrait lost his hands and was thrown to execution—and panic at being implicated. One proposes returning Louis's things and freeing her; others reject it, fearing the Lord won't spare them. The argument turns to murder. As they move to kill her someone shouts, "Stop!" Owen appears. A captive voices relief, "I'm saved." Owen's arrival freezes the group and leaves their next move uncertain.
