Lyra's stepmother, Morwenna, has restrained her to perform a painful magical procedure, insisting it's the only way to save Lyra's dying mana channels. Lyra fiercely resists, begging to be let go and declaring she'd rather be useless than endure the torture, even accusing Morwenna of wanting her dead. Despite Lyra's desperate pleas and insults, Morwenna persists with the treatment, telling her to bear the pain. Overwhelmed by the agony and feeling abandoned, Lyra defiantly threatens to end her own life if Morwenna doesn't stop.
