A breaking news report reveals Mrs. Dalton's abduction was staged to hide an affair and a secret hospital visit to terminate a pregnancy. At the Dalton house Serena is publicly accused and shamed; relatives demand she receive 30 lashes under family rules. Nigel is confronted—asked if he leaked the story and reminded he promised Serena's father to take care of her, then urged as family head to enforce punishment. Serena refuses to apologize, insists she did nothing wrong and says someone else should kneel. Nigel is left forced to choose between enforcing the sentence or defying his family.
