Sophie is pressured by Mr. Xavier, who offers $1 million to pay her father's medical bills if she will leave her boyfriend Spencer. Sophie refuses the cash and Spencer, calling the demand insulting. Back at the hospital, her father wakes, tells Sophie there's no cure, presents a birthday gift he asked the nurse to bring, and promises he'll watch over her after he's gone. Doctors rush in as he collapses. Sophie, grieving, tells him, 'If I had taken that $1 million, you could've survived.' The episode ends with her choice turning into a crushing, unresolved guilt.
