During their stormy wedding night the power goes out and Eliza—known for being ruthless—stands in her husband's room. He panics at her youth, admitting it's been ten years since he last saw that little girl and that marrying someone so young makes him feel like a monster. Eliza refuses to leave, presses him to conceive and threatens divorce and to pick a new husband if he fails. He answers, "Try me, and you'll find out if I can." Morning's ultimatum hangs: pregnancy or divorce.
