An order sends nearby men to Southhaven to wipe out the Darkscale Union, creating an external threat. Back home, Maddy is found and brought into the Randall household; her parents insist she be shielded from violence and trauma. A captured man who admits selling children is disposed of on their command. Tension erupts when the Randalls' adopted daughter, Britney, coldly questions Maddy's origin and refuses to welcome her. The father steps in, protects Maddy and disowns the bully, leaving the family divided and the coming heiress face-off unresolved.
