At a crowded street, townspeople gossip that Mayer's body wasn't found after he fell into that place and is thought to be beast food, while Mr. Hodson, having taken the kirin bone, is said to now rule the Mayers. They mention Wendy remarrying after her fiancé's death. The weather suddenly turns cold and attention shifts to a plaza giveaway; a beggar approaches but is chased off and called a jinx. He declares, "I'm a reaper of lives." Moments later someone screams that their legs are injured, leaving the crowd stunned and the claim unresolved.
