At the bet's deadline Jana learns she didn't win Zell and her opponent didn't win Wendy, but he admits defeat, so she wins. Officials tell Jana she can return to her old privileged life. Mr. Young, one of the Four Young Masters, stays in Jadeburg because 'Jana likes it here' and he'll remain for her despite family embarrassment. Mr. Carter has sent people to bring Mr. Young home and prepare a gift, but he delays them for exams. Back in the dorm Jana snaps, 'I'm done calling him,' leaving his stay and her feelings unresolved as the retrieval looms.
