At the manor gate a wedding erupts into scandal when Prince Jason refuses to receive Princess Elena and orders her to walk to her own wedding. Courtiers protest that the marriage is sanctioned by His Majesty, but Jason refuses to yield, insults her as unworthy to ride with him and threatens she stay alone until death. As Elena shivers and the crowd grows hostile, Prince Alex suddenly arrives and declares, 'Welcome to the household, Princess Elena.' Servants then worry if he is awake, leaving whether Alex's arrival will halt Jason unresolved.
