At a company toast for Mr. Carver, colleagues warn Adam that Jeff is headed for the studio, which triggers a past confrontation. Adam remembers bursting into Jeff's studio to "protect Rhea," fighting Jeff and expecting to be a hero — but Rhea accused him of assault, he lost his job and home, and his life was ruined. A tense scene follows when Abel appears and tells Adam, "I'm not your son," saying he now goes by Abel Payne and that Jeff is the father. Abel claims he's been reborn and vows, "This time, you two will get what you deserve."
