At a tense family meeting Melanie's match into the wealthy Leighs is finalized when Celeste's relatives reluctantly hand over the dowry. A captain traces a prior incident to Mr. Leigh and Melanie, and Michael is confronted: he admits he hurt Celeste while she was helpless.
