Bridal regalia from His Majesty and the first tranche of Prince Hayden's betrothal gifts arrive, and officials order Eloise to enter the palace early for departure the next day. Expensive dowry items—pearls, silver, land and shops—are presented as she and Hay prepare for the wedding. At the send-off another woman suddenly claims those gifts as her own, congratulates the pair and refuses to be angered. She ends by declaring, "Eloise Quimby, from now on, everything of yours will be mine." Officials still await; Eloise's status and possessions are publicly contested as she is escorted to the palace.
