During a confrontation April is accused of causing a woman's fall; she insists she didn't and pleads not to be separated from Reuben. She admits regret, calls herself a gold digger and says she's dying. Mr. Rogers accuses her of loving money, then challenges her: gather the diamonds and they'll be hers. In the scramble a woman who can't swim falls; April secures the diamonds and pays her mother's medical bills. Mr. Rogers lets her keep the gems but rejects her and orders her to leave, and she asks, "Is it really so hard to let me go?"
