At the Eight Halls' Coreblade selection, chiefs gather to draw weapon-souls while a chief who says he was betrayed in a past life vows not to become a pawn and to reclaim what he lost. Chiefs pull common and tempered blades; Hunter draws a Prime Wyrmblade, not the Executioner, and people claim the Executioner hid itself. Pressure falls on Chase—whose innate vessel the halls believe can claim a Legendary blade—to succeed. Despite saying he'd only reveal a fraction of strength, Chase unexpectedly draws the Legendary Coreblade, the Executioner. The hall erupts in shock; Executioner choosing Chase forces an immediate reckoning.
