Pressure falls on Chase—whose innate vessel the halls believe can claim a Legendary blade—to succeed. Despite saying he'd only reveal a fraction of strength, Chase unexpectedly draws the Legendary Coreblade, the Executioner. Confronted with a broken blade chosen over a Legendary Coreblade, a cultivator is warned he'll doom the Order unless he reaches the eighth realm within three years or burn his soul. Ordinary training is too slow, so he vows to refine the weapon repeatedly and uses blood-forging to accelerate its growth. The process surpasses expectations: the blade quickly attains the second realm, Ironflow, and he notes its serpent-like flexibility. As he celebrates progress, someone at the door calls for Samantha and then says "Chase, I'm coming in," interrupting the workshop and leaving his next move uncertain.

Samantha confronts Chase at night for discarding a Legendary Coreblade for a shattered blade, warning his reckless choice endangers the Order. She offers a spirit draught to restore him and nourish the blade, but Chase refuses, accusing her past care of betrayal and vowing not to feed his blade for Hunter to claim. Instead he burns his lifespark and, within three days, forces his blade into the second-realm Transcendence: a crimson python with twin horns. Fellow practitioners who sacrificed blood are stunned; they question how Hunter/Mr. York matched their imagery and pace, leaving the Order unsettled.

Angry, he vows to burn his blade's path and start over. The situation escalates when the Wyrmblade begins to self-immolate unexpectedly. Horrified, he orders it to stop: "Break now!" leaving the blade's fate and his power unresolved.
