Julie, newly reincarnated, confronts a genie who warns she has only three wishes. Remembering that past wishes enslaved her and provoked dangerous consequences, she vows to control this time. Her first wish removes the birthmark that provoked mockery and James's scorn; she basks in new looks and contemplates using the second wish to make James love her. At the crucial moment she stops and refuses to speak the wish, leaving the genie waiting and her next choice—and the risk of repeating past consequences—unresolved.
